Unleash the full potential of your electric shaver with the ultimate grooming secret: The best Electric Shaver saver spray cleaner and Lubricant oil. Ever wondered why your shaver isn’t performing at its peak? It’s time to lift the curtain on the unsung hero of grooming maintenance.
While the advantage of no longer purchasing blade refills is evident, it’s important to note that, over time, the foils and blades of your electric shaver will require replacement. Given the potential high cost of some replacements, maintaining the longevity of your shaver becomes crucial.
To preserve the optimal functioning of your electric shaver, proper cleaning and lubrication are essential. This article focuses on a must-have product for electric shaver users: a cleaning and lubricating spray.
Why should you use a spray cleaner for your electric razor?
- An electric shaver-specific aerosol cleaning spray is formulated to efficiently clean, lubricate, and safeguard the cutters against corrosion and wear. Its safe application extends beyond electric shavers to clippers and hair trimmers.
- The cleaning and lubricating spray excels at removing dirt, gunk, or dead skin while simultaneously applying a layer of lubrication. This dual action reduces friction and minimizes heat generated during use.
- It effectively dismantles hard water buildups on the cutting parts, a common result of cleaning your shaver with water. This breakdown not only preserves the cutting components but also diminishes wear, alleviates stress on the motor, and ensures optimal performance.
- Ideal for rejuvenating older shavers, this cleaning spray is a game-changer for those experiencing reduced efficiency. If your shaver isn’t performing as effectively as before, yet the foils and blades are not worn out to the point of replacement, you’ll be astonished by the transformative impact of such a product.
Common ingredients found in cleaning sprays include Isobutane, Methylal, Isopropyl Alcohol, Silicone and Fragrance.
The best spray cleaners and lubricants for electric shavers
There are many options to choose from, but I will stick to just four of them, mainly because they’re inexpensive, widely available and they work great.
Remington Shaver Saver Spray
This product is among the most widely acclaimed in its category, garnering praise from users worldwide.
In this guide, I’ll be utilizing this particular spray cleaner, and I can personally attest to its exceptional quality and effectiveness.
Remington Shaver Saver Having tried various brands over the years, the Remington spray cleaner stands out as the best in my experience.
Its lubricating properties are unparalleled, leading to significant enhancements in the performance of my shavers.
On the downside, it does come with a potent chemical scent, but this dissipates entirely once the treated parts have dried.
It’s worth noting that as of 2020, Remington Shaver Saver lubricating spray may be challenging to locate in certain countries, particularly in Europe.
What we liked
- Helps to clean and lubricates all electric shavers and offers convenience
- The device helps to maintain shaver speed and keeps the cutter cool
- Comes in a compact size that makes it convenient to carry
What didn’t like
- May be greasy in texture
If this product proves elusive, consider exploring the next available option.
Andis Cool Care Plus
In my opinion, the Cool Care Plus spray from Andis is a strong contender and the next best option.
Although it’s primarily marketed as a lubricant and cleaner for clippers, it proves highly effective with both rotary and foil electric razors.
Conveniently, it’s readily available and comes in a sizable container (15.5 OZ/439g).
Why does it take the second spot? Well, the Remington Shaver Saver appears to be slightly more effective, especially when dealing with more worn blades. Nevertheless, the Cool Care Plus spray performs admirably, and I wholeheartedly recommend it.
It excels in keeping blades cool, even with electric shavers that tend to generate more heat, such as those from Panasonic.
What we liked
- Five-in-one formula works as coolant, disinfectant, lubricant and cleaner
- Features special grip that makes it easy to hold
- Comes with a nozzle that makes it easy to spray and use
What didn’t like
- May arrive broken due to ordinary packaging
Additionally, the fragrance is more pleasant, offering a refreshing scent, particularly noticeable when shaving the area below the nose.
Braun Shaver Cleaner Spray
Then, we have options from two major electric shaver manufacturers: Braun and Philips.
These serve as viable alternatives if the previously mentioned two are unavailable, but in my experience, they don’t quite measure up.
While both Braun and Philips sprays boast good cleaning properties and a pleasant scent, they don’t match the efficiency of the first two as lubricants.
During use, my shavers tend to warm up and don’t perform as effectively with these options.
I’ve included them here because of their popularity and reasonable pricing, especially in Europe. The Philips spray cleaner (HQ110) stands out for its affordability and widespread availability in the UK.
What we liked
- Universal for any foil razor
- Beautiful and luxurious design
- Comes in a compact size that makes it convenient to carry
What didn’t like
- Does not create mist as described but very watery
However, if possible, I would strongly recommend opting for the first two choices from Remington and Andis.

How to Clean Your Electric Shaver Using a Spray Cleaner
Now, let’s explore the proper use of a cleaning spray. For this demonstration, I’ll be using Remington’s Shaver Saver, but the process is applicable to any similar product.
Given that the Remington Shaver Saver is an aerosol spray, application is remarkably straightforward. Ensure that the blades and foils of your shaver are dry before spraying. If you’ve rinsed your shaver with water, allow it to air dry before applying the spray. Additionally, remove any excess hairs from the shaving head.
As you may know, electric shavers come in two types: foil and rotary.
Cleaning Foil Shavers:
Before applying the spray, gently tap the foil frame on your countertop or use a fine brush to remove most of the hairs.
Avoid using the brush directly on the foils to prevent damage. While you can spray the foils directly on the shaver, I prefer to remove them to avoid spraying the rest of the shaver.
For Panasonic and Remington razors, where the inner blades and outer foils are separated, spraying becomes easier.
Generously spray both the blades and foils, placing them on a paper towel with the can positioned about 2 to 3 inches away.
Hold down the blades with your free hand to prevent them from being blown around. Do 2 or 3 sprays, flip over the foil frame, and spray the inside.
Reassemble the parts, turn the shaver on, and let it run for 5 to 10 seconds to ensure even distribution. Allow the foils to air dry completely before using the razor.
Cleaning Braun Cassettes: For most Braun shavers, where blades and foils are integrated into a single piece called a cassette, remove the cassette, place it on a paper towel, spray the foils, flip it over, and spray the inner part. Ensure proper drying before use.
Cleaning Rotary Shavers:
For rotary shavers, whether from Philips Norelco or Remington, the process is similar. Remove excess hairs using the included brush or by rinsing the shaving heads with water. Let them dry before applying the spray.
Disassemble the shaving unit to access the inner cutters. Avoid mixing blades and guards, as they are matching pairs. Spray both the rotary blades and the interior of the combs, then reassemble. Let the shaver run for 5 to 10 seconds.
I prefer to remove the head from the shaver for faster drying. Cleaning sprays don’t clog shavers or leave oily residues. They often have a pleasant scent, contributing to the sensation of a clean razor.
How Often to Use a Cleaning Spray: The frequency depends on your shaving and cleaning habits. If you only shave dry without using soap, applying the spray once or twice a week should be sufficient.
If you clean your shaver with liquid soap and water, lubricate it after each cleaning involving soap. Use the spray according to your needs, either as a standalone or in conjunction with other cleaning methods.
Personally, I clean my shavers with soap and water after every use, whether wet or dry, and spray the foils and blades before each shave.
The Remington spray, my favorite, efficiently removes any missed traces of dirt, making my shavers work smoother. It transformed my older Panasonic shaver, enhancing its performance significantly.
